When I am not working in my studio in Tennessee, I am traveling to paint studies on location. For this piece, I used thumbnail sketches in pencil and marker as well as studies in oil I painted among the white granite of the Eastern Sierra. I find it more exciting and the work much fresher when I work from such personal resources rather than from photographs. In the comfort of the studio, my mind travels back to an early morning after having just rolled out of the tent, bundled for warmth, working in the early silence, with a cup of 'camp' coffee in my hand. It's an indescribable feeling. I hope you can feel it too.
This is the second annual exhibition of works on paper for Meyer Vogl. I have decided to exhibit my monotypes in this special show. These are all oil on paper.

Music and visual art so often intermix, with one inspiring the other – igniting ideas or simply lingering in the background; music often becomes married to memories of creation and how it felt to create.
For the group show Mixtape, over 15 visual artists were invited to create just one piece of art with one simple requirement: Name the piece after a song. The song could be one that the artist listened to while making the work, a song that evokes strong memories, or simply a song that the artist is currently listening to on repeat.

Junk Drawer is an art show about things. When we think of still lifes as a form of artistic expression, our minds often go to traditional flowers in a vase; fruits and vegetables arranged in such a way. Junk Drawer is a still life show for the rest of us. The painters and sculptors in this group exhibition are finding inspiration in the random items and objects around the house or along the path of their day that catch their attention -- the little nothings that, at just the right moment, are everythings.
Piece a Cake is one of 8 pieces I will have in this exhibition.
